All of these so-called “reasons” were also reasons last year and don’t explain the fall-off from last year except the controversy over disrespecting the flag. That is the real driver which the author dispensed with as a bullet point at the end. There are a significant number of people, myself included, who spent every Sunday afternoon, Monday night, and Thursday night watching NFL games. After the NFL took no action to stop the insult to the flag of this country, many of these long-time fans felt insulted. I decided I would never watch an NFL game until the NFL kicks Colin Kaepernick out of the league. Let the spoiled millionaires protest on their own time as is their right as Americans. But I’m not tuning in to watch their protest. I do want to see a non-partisan patriotic display honoring our common values and symbols and I do want to see football and I do want some entertainment. Until the NFL can deliver that, I’ll watch something else or even possibly discover there is life without pro football.
