An excellent analysis except for one major omission. Trump’s election is not an isolated phenomenon. Rather it is the American manifestation of a worldwide populist trend. The next phase will continue to see a battle between those who favor international organizations and those favoring nationalism and bilateral arrangements. The same sides will align to fight over immigration and citizenship. There will be several people vying to be Trump’s successor to lead the American populists. The movement will not always win, but it sure doesn’t look like its going to die anytime soon.
