“Immense dangers" you say. The sky will fall if temperature rises by 1.5 degrees. The world as we know it will come to an end. Or will it?
I thought they said world GDP would increase 10% less than it otherwise would 30-50 years from now. That’s possible, but in no way provable to even a modest degree of certainty. What is more definite? That cutting GDP growth by 10% now ostensibly to prevent climate change will cut GDP growth now.
The climate change panic is hyped hysteria. It has an anti-Western, anti-American slant that wholly ignores the fact that most of the increase in CO2 is coming from new coal plants and additional cars in China and India.
The panic is a pretext for making major changes in the economy. But are such changes needed? Why can’t we adopt a strategy that includes intelligent non-disruptive adaptation to climate change ? This includes moving structures back from hurricane-prone coastlines, promoting wetlands, erecting buildings on stilts to withstand flooding, building more levees (Netherlands), adopting a more water-borne culture (Venice), planting more CO2 absorbing crops, and a hundred other measures to help us live quite comfortably. The climate has always been changing and we as a species have always been flexible enough to adapt. Let’s make sensible changes over time in orderly fashion without blowing up our economy to placate the climate hysterics or the children they have frightened.
