Just to be clear, there is no formal House impeachment inquiry. There is simply a declaration by the Speaker of the House. The impeachment inquiries for Nixon and Clinton were formally started by votes. Until Nancy Pelosi allows a vote, this inquiry lacks legitimacy. She is running it as a partisan propaganda exercise. Schiff’s role in orchestrating the third-hand Whistleblower complaint is still unclear. He needs to be deposed and to testify publicly under oath about his role. We do know he dishonestly feigned ignorance to having contact and his office had to issue a correction.
None of the evidence shows anything slightly improper was done by Trump. Trump asked the President of the Ukraine to look into Crowdstrike, the firm that did the audit on supposedly hacked DNC servers in 2016. Later in the discussion the Ukrainian President turned the conversation to his anti-corruption agenda and it was then Trump asked for the Ukrainians to investigate the Bidens. With what we know about Hunter Biden’s cushy job, a definitive official investigation is clearly called for. The Ukrainian President agreed saying such an investigation was needed to restore honesty. There was no quid pro quo and no threat. Volker’s text to Taylor says flat out the President is “crystal clear” there is no quid pro quo.
But, even if there was a quid pro quo to investigate corruption in exchange for a meeting, that doesn’t rise to the level of a “high crime and misdemeanor”. Joe Biden did explicitly threaten loss of US aid if a Prosecutor wasn’t fired in six hours. Biden had a massive conflict of interest and should have been the last person making such a threat. It is hysterical watching Democrats and media propagandists twist themselves into knots saying what Biden did was ok, but then claiming the far lesser possible infractions by Trump are impeachable.
We all know how this ends. After Nancy gets a near party-line impeachment vote, the Senate will exonerate Trump. The party line impeachment vote in the House will likely cost moderate Democrats their seats and return the House to Republican hands.
