Or it might mean, and more likely does mean, there are no obstruction of justice charges coming. Just like there are no charges of collusion coming. That is trivially true since “collusion” is not a crime anyway. But it also appears true in the larger sense that Mueller will not indict anybody for conspiring with the Russians. The key question you need to ask is why hasn’t Mueller indicted anybody for anything directly related to collusion. His targets of prosecution been indicted for lying to the FBI, lying to Congress, failing to register as a foreign lobbyist a decade ago, and for dishonesty on old tax forms also from a decade ago. If Mueller as going to indict someone for something related to collusion, why hasn’t he done so already?
You wasted a thousand words trying to dream up some obstruction charges Mueller is sitting on. But it’s a dream, not reality. Firing Comey is a Presidential prerogative. You make it the centerpiece of something, but consider this: Nixon’s firing of the Special Prosecutor and Attorney General were not part of the obstruction case in his impeachment.
What really comes across is how frightened you are that this will all come to an end. That there will be no charges of obstruction, no charges of anything like collusion. That a highly redacted Mueller report will be released with nothing new, nothing we don’t already know, nothing that adds up to Trump committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” and nothing that gets Trump indicted.
Know for a certainty that if the Mueller report ends without a huge “bombshell”, a real one this time, without a series of stunning indictments or new revelations, without something definite showing Trump conspired with Putin, then everyone but the most partisan Democrat and the most paranoid conspiracy theorist will conclude this whole collusion narrative was a total sham. You can try to put a smiley face on it: Mueller has already left a “road map” for prosecutions, and, look, there’s a trail of cookie crumbs that lead to Trump’s impeachment. However, at this point, that’s borderline delusional. If Mueller doesn’t issue indictments that spell “COLLUSION”, no one will. No one has a mandate to pick up that torch. Also, not unimportantly, Democratic Presidential candidates will soon beg the House to put aside any collusion investigations or impeachment talk. It will overshadow their campaigns and will rally Trump’s base like nothing else and will lose a lot of votes from independents. I hate to break it to you: your favorite conspiracy is about to die.
