So China is just supposed to grant national status to any ethnic group that demands it and allow the larger country to be broken apart into crumbs?
When did the concept of East Turkestan as a national entity come into existence? It is less than a century. They may be longer than the Palestinian nationality which was invented in 1964, but it’s still nothing compared with the ancient history of China. East Turkestan enjoyed brief semi-autonomy in 1940 when the Chinese were fighting Japanese invaders-a fact conveniently omitted in this propaganda piece. East Turkestan was never recognized by the US or any other allied country.
I am not a general apologist for China. The Chinese invasion and occupation of Tibet, a nation with a thousand year history and culture, is simply wrong. In contrast Chinese position on East Turkestan is well-justified.
