Sorry, but all the gibberish and double-talk cannot obscure the plain-English meaning of “Defund the Police”. If it means anything, it means reduce the budget of the police department to zero.
I respectfully disagree. I think police funding needs to increase. The increase would fund more personnel, more videocams, better training, and upgrades in equipment and software. This should be coupled with revisions in policy, supervision, and command and control protocols all aimed at reducing the number of officer caused fatalities. At the same time, we need to try hard to reduce the crime rate in low income neighborhoods. This could entail reversing changes in the legal system, bail, sentencing, and penal systems that are putting more violent criminals out on the street. In our debate about defunding the police, we are losing track of the purpose of the police. Blacks are being murdered by criminals at a high rate. There were over 2,900 Blacks murdered in 2018. More police funding is needed to lock up the violent criminals, protect the law-abiding, and reduce the number of murders.
