Without supporting evidence, corroborating witness, or contemporaneous records about an event at an unspecified location at an unknown time and no explanation of how people got there or left, we really don’t know. Given that the experience was not put in a diary or shared for 30 years, it might have changed in her memory or could have been altered by the power of suggestion in talking to her therapist. People do have provably inaccurate memories of recent events and most people forget most events over time. Claims of extraordinary recall of decade old events should not be accepted uncritically. The key point is that a totally innocent person who was 1,000 miles away couldn’t exonerate themselves from charges like these that have no objective fact allegations to rebut.
