The riots need to stop and they need to stop now. Stealing a TV from Target or burning down a local store does not honor the memory of George Floyd. Grabbing a case of beer from a liquor store or torching a car does not advance the cause of justice.
The Minnesota authorities from the Governor to the Mayor have proven to be weak and inept. They are to blame for letting the situation get out of control. Shamefully, the Mayor ordered the police to abandon a police station to a violent mob.

The Democrat Mayor and Governor are unwilling to maintain order. It is against their philosophy to prevent stores from being trashed or to stop cars from being torched. The Mayor finally ordered a curfew for Friday night, but that was completely ignored.

These outbreaks of lawlessness are overshadowing the legitimate protests over the killing of George Floyd by the police. Everyone agrees the police officers who killed George Lloyd were wrong and that they need to be investigated and prosecuted. The one who held his knee on the neck of George Floyd has been arrested on a charge of third degree murder. The prosecutors need to do a timely and thorough investigation so the charges they file can be upheld by a jury at trial. President Trump has the Department of Justice investigating civil rights violations. What more can be done right now to further the cause of justice for George Floyd? To what extent is the killing a product of poor police training? To what extent is it due to racism. These are topics we as a country need to discuss, but they have been pushed aside by scenes of looting. The destruction we see is not peaceful protest and cannot be excused. Order must be restored and the looters must be arrested.
This descent into chaos reveals the ultimate endpoint of Progressive Left political philosophy. It is a philosophy that stokes race hatred. It is a philosophy that sees police as the enemy. It regards businesses, large and small, as agents of capitalism and refuses to protect them from looting. It wants to agitate people to act as a mob online and in the streets.
Those who were alive during the riots of the 60s have seen this movie before. The more the attempt is made to placate the lawless, the more lawless the situation becomes. Eventually the point is reached where it takes much more force than it originally would have to restore order.
It is time now, before it gets worse, for President Trump to act to stop the riots. He has already condemned the killing of George Floyd and ordered the FBI and Department of Justice to begin investigating.

But he also needs to do what is needed to put an end to the looting and burning. While rioting has broken out in many cities, he needs to concentrate first on bringing order to Minneapolis. He can call on the Governor to deploy the National Guard and enforce peace on the streets. If the Governor refuses, he can do it himself . He can federalize the Minnesota National Guard and bring in Regular Army troops in a massive show of force. The troops could then start making mass arrests of thousands of rioters. Special agents working with state officials could be assigned to look through video and make arrests of hundreds of the most egregious looters and arsonists. Once that is done in Minnesota, other states will follow suit and rioting will come to a halt all over the country.
The time for gentle understanding is over. We cannot allow our cities to be overrun by rioters. If state and local officials are too squeamish to act, then President Trump should do so. He needs to do whatever it takes to stop the riots. He needs to act now.
