The climate has been changing for 4 billion years. No knowledgeable person denies it. What needs to be denied is the unscientific belief in climate stability, more precisely, the idea the climate will stay exactly as it is if only there was no human industrial activity.
The true believers proclaim dire punishments are at hand unless drastic changes are made. They demand painful sacrifices supposedly to appease the climate diety.
The insistence that the US must lower its standard of living to save the climate stems more from a misplaced guilt and yearning for atonement than any rational strategy for dealing with the problems that arise from inevitable changes in the climate. A better approach is to adapt to changes as they start to become manifest and to make adaptations that are cost effective and minimally disruptive.
