The question used to be on the census for 50 years. There may or may not be others ways to get the information on how many illegal aliens live here, but asking for it is one direct approach. It’s information that’s useful to have. There is nothing on its face that is unconstitutional about the question. Courts should stop trying to substitute their judgement in place of the decisions made by elected officials and only overturn if an action directly violates a provision. There should also be some reluctance to overturn precedent. This really should be 9-0, but it will likely be found Constitutional by 5-4.
