The table is set for Trump. The Democrat leaders in many cities seem weak and inept, unable to prevent their cities from being burned and looted. The potential political shift against the Democrats on the Law and Order issue goes beyond Red states. Even in Blue states, every suburban commuter who is afraid to go to work becomes a potential Trump voter. All the small business owners, including many Black and Hispanic Americans, whose stores were burned and looted, will look to Trump as a necessary evil to counteract chaos. Another day of violence in New York and you will see millions of people longing for Mayor Giuliani to come back.
The only problem is that Trump hasn't done enough. Tweets alone won't do it. He needs to take action. He could nationalize the National Guard in several states and send in FBI agents, US marshals, military police, and even regular army forces with armor, helicopters and drones. Five days ago a few thousand infantry and military police in Minneapolis would have sufficed to restore order. Now much larger forces are needed in many cities. Unless there is clear progress toward restoring order tonight, Trump needs to stop hesitating and start acting. People of all races will cheer the military for liberating their cities from rioters, arsonists, and looters and for making it safe to go out again.
