These begrudging admissions that “steps were taken” and “Florida intervened” beg the question of who took those steps and who led the intervention. Was it not Governor DeSantis? Judging from the mortality statistics, Governor DeSantis did a better job than Governor Cuomo in dealing with the pandemic, not just a little bit better but better by an order of magnitude. In New York, Governor Cuomo ordered nursing homes and senior care facilities to take in Covid-19 positive people, despite the lack of training or equipment needed to prevent the spread of the disease. Roughly a quarter of all deaths in the US are a consequence of that mistake and the similar one made in New Jersey. In contrast, the Florida approach focused on protecting the vulnerable, not enforcing arbitrary and ineffective restrictions on the whole population. Governor DeSantis deserves the credit for that. His decisions saved a lot of lives and this hit piece can’t diminish that accomplishment or bring the dead in New York back to life.
