Trump’s policy on North Korea is neither irrational or stupid, but where do his insults and tweets fit in? The article fails the addresses the buffoonery emanating from the White House.

It is also missing discussion of serious reply-in-kind options that might really turn the tables. These options include first reintroducing “tactical” nuclear artillery and missiles as weapons in US military arsenals in South Korea and even Japan. Another is to put select nuclear weapons in South Korea and Japan under joint command and control. Finally, the US could give its allies 50 or so nukes each. The idea is to abandon non-proliferation as a failure in the Korean Peninsula and introduce a more stable nuclear deterrence. The larger strategy is to raise the nuclear threat against North Korea and to scare the Chinese about the potential for escalation so much that they will both push for a return to a completely non-nuclear Korea. There are major reasons this is a bad idea, but it should be discussed. It makes a lot more sense than a cavalcade of nasty tweets.
