UNSC 242 does not mention Palestinians and does not call for a Palestinian state. It calls on Israel to withdraw from territory taken in the Six Day War of 1967, but it does not say “all” territory. The word “all" was deleted at the insistence of Israel and the US. Israel declared it would not return to previous armistice lines that had never been recognized as borders and which had been proven to endanger Israel’s security. It also noted its right to keep land taken in a defense war. UNSC calls on the parties to make peace and declares the right of the countries to live in secure recognized borders. Eventually, Israel gave back all of the land taken from Egypt in Sinai and the two countries signed a peace treaty. Israel later withdrew from Gaza. With respect to Gaza and Sinai, UNSC 242 has already been implemented.
