Would you take your child on a dangerous hike into a desert with no food or water? If so, you are at least a quite irresponsible parent. A strong case can be made that you are guilty of child endangerment and should not be allowed to retain custody. Parents have primary responsibility to care for their children. The attempt to thrust this responsibility onto border guards is morally repugnant. This is the desert and the father chose to take his child there to a place where there were no facilities for children. How is it the responsibility of the guards these facilities did not exist? It is also a outright smear to say anyone wanted the child to die. No one did. Everyone is saddened by it. But the responsibility is 100% with the parent.
